AI-Native Electrical Engineer
Job Summary
Join a dynamic team evolving early-stage prototypes into deployable alpha hardware systems for key design partners. This hands-on, full-stack role focuses on turning concepts into reliable, customer-ready products using AI-native workflows to accelerate development. You will own the end-to-end process from lab prototypes to structured, testable hardware.
Essential Functions
- Own the transition from prototype to alpha product by iterating rough lab-scale systems into structured, testable hardware.
- Design and build high-voltage DC power systems including 800V-class power conversion, switching, and distribution using modern semiconductor devices like SiC.
- Model, simulate, and validate system performance with tools such as SPICE or PLECS to evaluate electrical, thermal, and system-level behavior.
- Lead hands-on bring-up, debugging, and characterization in the lab using high-power equipment to resolve issues in switching, timing, sensing, and protection.
- Leverage AI-native workflows including agents and LLMs to speed up design, testing, and iteration cycles.
- Coordinate with external partners on PCB fabrication, component sourcing, and packaging to deliver cohesive systems.
- Drive system-level thinking and pragmatic tradeoffs across performance, thermals, reliability, and manufacturability.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience designing, prototyping, and testing power electronics systems.
- Owned hardware from prototype to validated system including design, simulation, bring-up, and iteration.
- Experience in EV, EV charging, solar, or battery storage applications.
- Experience with high-voltage and high-power switching systems such as 800V and SiC devices.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or proven aptitude in power electronics.
- Strong system intuition to reason about electrical, thermal, and mechanical tradeoffs.
- AI-native workflow using AI tools like agents and models.
- Proficient with electrical simulation software such as SPICE or PLECS.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with gate-driver design for fast-switching architectures.
- High agency and bias for action.
- Proven curiosity through side projects such as Formula SAE.
- Located in or willing to relocate to Detroit, MI.
