Engineering Manager
About the Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager with 4+ years of experience (including at least 2 years of formal people management) to lead the team behind our no-code platform that accounts for about half of company revenue. We want a hands-on leader with high-growth startup experience who can step in and get to work right away: writing code during a busy sprint one week, then coaching engineers and running the roadmap the next. This is a new seat, not a backfill. The company is doubling every year, and this hire gives the platform a dedicated leader with full focus. You will report to the VP of Engineering and help shape how marketers turn warehouse data into action.
What will you be doing?
Lead and grow a team of about 4-5 engineers working on the main interface marketers use to activate data directly from their warehouse, without needing to write SQL.
Stay hands-on: write code, review designs, and dig into technical problems when the team needs it, instead of handing technical work off to a tech lead.
Own roadmapping and delivery of major features, such as data warehouse performance work, analytics and experimentation, real-time audience syncing (CDC), and generative AI workflows.
Hire and mentor high-impact engineers: identify what the team needs, design how candidates are evaluated, and support each person's growth and engagement.
Improve how fast and how reliably the team ships while the company grows quickly: fewer incidents, catching issues before customers do, and strong incident management habits.
Requirements
- Engineering Manager role involving both technical and people management
- Expected to manage 4-8 direct reports depending on expertise and team needs
- Hands-on technical involvement is necessary, with flexibility for management tasks
- Direct people management experience as an Engineering Manager (not tech lead or unofficial mentorship)
- Minimum 2+ years as an Engineering Manager; 4-16 years in software engineering overall
- Ability to jump into code and be hands-on technically when needed
- Experience in high-growth environments is crucial; big tech-only backgrounds are less favored
- Experience at high-growth series B-E startups or scale-ups, and/or as a founder
- Strong preference for a top-tier CS degree and startup experience
- Preference for a mix of startup and larger tech company experience
- Strong career trajectory of promotions
- Located in US time zones (US or Canada)
- Skills relevant to data warehousing, SQL, reverse ETL, CDP, CDC, and generative AI
