Software Engineer (Backend)
Job Summary
We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to help build the future of multi-cloud AI infrastructure. This role focuses on designing and implementing scalable systems that enable AI workloads to run portably and cost-optimally across any cloud or on-prem environment.
You will contribute to core platform components, enhance support for diverse AI and batch workloads, and engage directly with users and the open-source community to drive adoption and visibility.
Essential Functions
- Design and build core systems aligned with the Sky Computing vision to establish the platform as the standard for multi-cloud AI execution
- Develop enhancements and new components to better support a wide range of AI and batch workloads
- Collaborate closely with users and customers to ensure successful implementation of their use cases
- Contribute to growing the open-source community through public tutorials, blog posts, and technical talks
- Build robust, scalable distributed systems and cloud infrastructure components
Required Qualifications
- 3-8 years of industry experience as a backend engineer
- Strong background in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
- Proven track record of designing and implementing impactful, scalable infrastructure platforms
- Experience building robust systems that handle complex workloads at scale
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI or machine learning infrastructure
- Background in open-source projects or community engagement
- Prior work at high-growth technology companies
- Familiarity with multi-cloud or Kubernetes-based environments

Compensation & Benefits
Salary range of $165,000 - $265,000 base, depending on qualifications and experience, plus competitive equity. Benefits include visa sponsorship support for transfers such as OPT or H1B, hybrid work model (4 days in-office in the San Francisco Bay Area, Fridays remote), and the opportunity to join a well-funded early-stage company with top-tier engineering talent.
