Systems Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to build core compute and runtime primitives for long-running, stateful AI agents. This role focuses on virtualization, sandboxing, isolation, distributed storage, scheduling, and networking at the lowest layers of the stack. Your contributions will directly impact an early-stage team where every subsystem you own ships to production quickly.
Essential Functions
- Build core compute and runtime primitives including virtualization, sandboxing, and isolation systems for secure multi-tenant workloads
- Take ownership of entire subsystems end-to-end such as storage, scheduling, networking, and virtualization, and ship them to production
- Design and implement persistent state, snapshotting, and recovery mechanisms for always-on agent workloads
- Optimize sandbox startup latency to sub-50ms and improve performance across syscalls and scheduling decisions
- Design and build distributed storage layers, schedulers, and networking infrastructure that scale across global data centers
- Profile, debug, and benchmark systems under real-world scale, latency, correctness, and reliability constraints
- Contribute to long-term roadmap including on-prem GPU clusters and model training infrastructure
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated depth in OS/kernel internals, virtualization, file systems, or distributed infrastructure
- Experience owning technically ambitious projects end-to-end in production, open source, or research environments
- Strong comfort working at the lowest layers of the stack including kernel, hypervisor, storage, and networking
- Verifiable body of work that demonstrates genuine technical depth
- Proficiency in systems programming languages such as Rust, Go, C, or C++
- 0-12 years of experience with openness to both new graduates and experienced engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GPU infrastructure, AI/ML systems, or distributed storage and consensus protocols
- Background in Linux kernel development, KVM, Firecracker, or similar hypervisors
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, or large-scale orchestration systems
- Prior work on CUDA, high-performance networking, or storage systems

Education & Certifications
Strong academic or professional background in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related fields is expected. Advanced degrees are a plus but not required if accompanied by exceptional practical experience.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary $180K - $300K depending on experience, with meaningful equity (0.5 percent - 1 percent) and bonus. Full-time on-site in San Francisco with relocation support including flights and six months of rent. Visa sponsorship and transfers available for candidates already in the US.
