Job Summary
We are seeking a driven Buyer to support the efficient procurement of materials and services that keep operations running smoothly. In this role, you will work closely with internal teams and suppliers to manage purchase orders, negotiate pricing, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials. This position plays a key role in maintaining cost effectiveness, strong supplier relationships, and operational continuity while supporting a commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions
- Independently analyzes demand, determines order quantities, and negotiates purchases of inventory materials up to $25,000 per MRP signals.
- Places purchase orders for inventory and non-inventory items and follows up as needed to maintain adequate material supply.
- Ensures uninterrupted material availability while maximizing inventory turns.
- Resolves quality and delivery issues with suppliers.
- Sources new items with both new and existing suppliers.
- Identifies potential suppliers and qualifies them as required.
- Identifies cost reduction opportunities through competitive bidding, negotiation, and design changes; implements when feasible.
- Evaluates supplier performance and provides feedback to improve lead time, on-time delivery, cost, terms, and quality.
- Builds and maintains long-term relationships with key suppliers to ensure preferred customer status.
- Takes ownership of assigned parts, monitoring for inventory accuracy, obsolescence, and potential supply issues.
- Conducts moderately complex analytical studies and presents recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- BA or BS degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Three years of relevant procurement experience using MRP applications.
- Knowledge of production and procurement procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local procurement laws and regulations.
- Strong functional and technical skills in assigned areas.
- Demonstrated ability to manage key supplier relationships.
- Proven capability to lead commodity responsibilities across the organization.
- Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- NAPM or APICS certification.
- Experience managing company-wide supplier relationships.
- Background in manufacturing or production environments.
