Principal Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer

fast-scaling AI semiconductor startup Boston, MA Direct Hire $200,000 - $325,000

Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer to lead the design of next-generation thermodynamic computing chips. This role involves developing a new compute paradigm that leverages thermal noise in CMOS for probabilistic sampling, offering significant power efficiency gains for AI acceleration and edge computing. You will own major architecture elements and contribute hands-on in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment of approximately 30 people.

Essential Functions

  • Leading the design of analog and mixed-signal blocks including ADCs, PLLs, bandgaps, regulators, high-speed serializers/deserializers, oscillators, and dividers for upcoming chip tape-outs
  • Owning significant portions of chip architecture and potentially serving as design lead for one of multiple planned chips
  • Performing hands-on layout work along with design verification such as DRC, ERC, and LVS
  • Collaborating across IC design, systems, physics, and algorithms teams to implement probabilistic computing concepts in silicon
  • Contributing to lab testing and validation of fabricated chips using tools such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes

Required Qualifications

  • 6 to 20 years of experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design, including PLLs, ADCs, or SerDes
  • Experience designing mixed-signal blocks such as PLLs, SerDes, ADCs, or oscillators rather than purely analog circuits
  • Multiple tape-outs completed, ideally in FinFET or 28nm/65nm process nodes
  • Strong expertise in CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuit design
  • Proficiency with Cadence simulation tools including PEX, Monte-Carlo, and corner analysis
  • Hands-on layout experience beyond simple review
  • Willingness to perform varied tasks outside core specialty in a startup setting
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on circuits or IC design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience from semiconductor companies focused on high-performance analog and mixed-signal design
  • Background in building blocks such as comparators, high-speed designs, or ADCs
  • Familiarity with FinFET or advanced lower process nodes
  • Prior project leadership experience on complex IC developments

Technical Skills

  • CMOS circuit design
  • Cadence simulation tools
  • FinFET process technology
  • PLL design
  • ADC design
  • SerDes implementation
  • Python scripting
  • C programming
  • Mixed-signal verification
  • Layout and physical design

Education & Certifications

MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering focused on circuits or IC design.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary ranging from 200000 to 325000 depending on experience and qualifications.
