AI Product Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a talented AI Product Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of product features in a small, high-impact engineering team. This role centers on building and scaling agentic AI workflows that support complex clinical reasoning tasks used by major health systems. You will spend equal time on deep technical work and strategic product thinking in a flat, asynchronous environment with minimal process overhead.
Essential Functions
- Take full ownership of product features from ideation and design through implementation, testing, and deployment without dedicated product management support
- Build and scale agentic AI workflows and primitives that power reliable, long-running clinical reasoning tasks
- Allocate approximately half of time to writing code and half to planning, architecture, code review, and considering user impact
- Develop backend infrastructure with a 65/35 split between backend and frontend work
- Collaborate asynchronously within a seven-person engineering team where every engineer works across the full product
- Interface directly with clinicians, end users, and customer insights to translate clinical needs into technical solutions
- Contribute to building net-new feature sets on top of stable infrastructure with minimal maintenance work
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- 2-8 years of full-time software engineering experience, ideally 4-6 years
- At least one standout career peak such as attendance at a top-tier school, rapid promotions, early-stage startup experience, or work on a high-performing team
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of product features without product manager support
- Strong proficiency with Python for backend development
- High ownership, reliability, initiative, and ability to drive work independently
- Experience building backend infrastructure for agent-based or LLM-powered systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare or health-tech background
- Early employee experience at a VC-backed startup
- Familiarity with Rust or infrastructure tooling such as Kubernetes on AWS
- Product thinking that incorporates end-user impact into technical decisions
- Frontend development experience with React and TypeScript

Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range of $160,000 to $260,000 depending on experience, skills, and location. This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
