Lead Electrical Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to own the full electrical architecture of a groundbreaking consumer BCI wearable device. This foundational role involves integrating audio, video, sensor, compute, and communication subsystems from schematic capture through production ramp.
You will build the EE team from the ground up, make critical SoC and component decisions, collaborate with external manufacturing partners, and maintain hands-on technical leadership in a fast-paced startup setting.
Essential Functions
- Own the complete electrical architecture including compute partitioning, sensor integration, power management, RF/wireless, and signal integrity across flex and rigid-flex PCB designs
- Evaluate and select SoC platforms and key components while performing detailed trade-off analyses and owning BOM strategy with second sourcing
- Assess organizational needs, build the electrical engineering team from scratch, and define internal versus external development models
- Lead hardware bring-up, debug, and validation at the electrical level while supporting firmware and subsystem teams
- Drive design for manufacturability, test, and assembly through contract manufacturing partners
- Function as a hands-on technical leader who can architect at the system level and dive into detailed problem solving as needed
Required Qualifications
- 10-20 years of experience in consumer electronics electrical engineering with at least one shipped product under technical leadership
- Proven success shipping a consumer electronics product as the technical lead in wearables, audio, mobile, or similar category
- Experience building a team or function from zero to one rather than inheriting an established organization
- Hands-on experience with EEG, biopotential, or high-density sensor array systems
- System-level mixed-signal design experience spanning audio, video, compute, sensors, and communications subsystems
- Flex and rigid-flex PCB design with complete signal and power integrity sign-off
- SoC evaluation, BOM ownership, and second-source strategy on production products
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in high ambiguity and define direction without established processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in brain-computer interface or neurotechnology hardware
- Prior success in early-stage startup environments
- Background working with joint design manufacturing partners in Asia
- Track record of delivering consumer products on aggressive timelines
Technical Skills
- Mixed-signal PCB design for flex and rigid-flex boards
- Signal integrity and power integrity analysis
- Multi-MCU and SoC system architecture
- RF and wireless design including Wi-Fi and BLE
- Power management with PMIC, battery systems, and USB-C
- Sensor analog front ends for EEG and biopotential signals
- Audio DSP implementation
- Camera and image signal processor interfaces
- SoC evaluation, selection, and validation
- DFM, DFT, and DFA methodologies
Education & Certifications
BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, with preference for graduates of top-tier engineering programs.
Compensation & Benefits
Base compensation ranging from $300,000 to $400,000 annually, plus meaningful equity in a high-upside startup. Exact offer will be based on experience and interview performance.
