Senior Electrical Engineer

Series A climate tech startup San Leandro, CA Direct Hire Manufacturing $160,000 - $200,000

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development, integration, and scaling of electrical systems for large-scale robotic platforms. This hands-on role focuses on transitioning from R&D prototypes to repeatable manufacturing, including troubleshooting on the shop floor, creating technical documentation, and improving subsystem designs for reliability and production efficiency.

You will collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams in a fast-paced startup environment as the company expands from initial deployments into full-scale production.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshooting, integrating, and scaling electrical systems including motors, drives, actuators, sensors, controls, and machine wiring across deployed and in-development robotic platforms
  • Developing and maintaining electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, and technical documentation to establish consistent standards for future production builds
  • Working hands-on with large robotic systems in the shop environment to support wiring, installation, system integration, testing, and issue resolution alongside technicians and engineers
  • Redesigning and improving electrical subsystems based on evolving requirements and lessons learned from existing systems to enhance reliability and manufacturability
  • Supporting the transition from one-off R&D builds to repeatable production processes as the company scales multiple system generations and prepares for a dedicated manufacturing facility
  • Partnering with mechanical, software, manufacturing, and hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems across the full robotic platform

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of post-graduation experience in electrical engineering focused on large-scale robotic or automotive systems
  • Hands-on experience with motors, drives, actuators, sensors, wiring harnesses, and large physical systems such as vehicles, robots, or aircraft
  • Proven background working with machine wiring, factory systems, and physical integration rather than only PCBs or small electronics
  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment with adaptability and strong collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness design, and component selection for control systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience at a robotics, electric vehicle, or autonomous systems company
  • Background supporting the transition from prototype development to scaled manufacturing
  • Familiarity with PLCs and industrial automation in large-scale applications

Technical Skills

  • Electrical CAD for schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Motors and drives
  • Actuators and sensors
  • Control systems and PLCs
  • Power distribution
  • Industrial automation
  • Wiring harness design and installation
  • Python programming
  • System integration and troubleshooting on large physical platforms

Education & Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and market benchmarks for senior engineering roles in the Bay Area. This is a full-time, on-site position supporting the build-out of advanced robotic manufacturing systems.
