Senior Electrical Engineer (Maritime)
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as the Responsible Engineer for critical electrical subsystems on autonomous underwater vehicles. This role involves full ownership of designing custom PCBAs from concept through production for high-impact defense applications. You will drive rapid development cycles, replacing off-the-shelf components with in-house designs to support fast deployment in maritime environments.
Essential Functions
- Design custom PCBA boards using industry-standard tools and own the full lifecycle from architecture and schematic capture through layout, prototyping, debug, and production handoff
- Bring up new boards from scratch, troubleshooting signal integrity issues, timing problems, and manufacturing defects with high-speed oscilloscopes and lab equipment
- Collaborate closely with embedded software engineers to ensure seamless hardware and software integration for assigned subsystems
- Make rapid engineering trade-offs to deliver high-quality hardware on aggressive timelines while optimizing for power efficiency and harsh underwater conditions including conformal coating
- Support field testing, sea trials, and deployment by taking end-to-end responsibility for subsystem performance from prototype to operational use
Required Qualifications
- 4-7 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on designing and taking PCBAs from concept through full production
- Demonstrated experience personally architecting and owning the complete PCB lifecycle including schematic, layout, bring-up, debug, and manufacturing handoff
- Deep expertise in at least one of the following: high-speed digital electronics (PCIe, DDR, signal integrity), motor control (BLDC, GaN, MOSFETs), or power electronics and battery management systems (DC-DC converters, BMS)
- Expert-level proficiency with PCB design tools, with strong preference for Altium Designer and proven capability designing complex multilayer boards
- Hands-on proficiency using high-speed oscilloscopes and laboratory debug tools for signal integrity analysis and board troubleshooting
- Background in automotive, aerospace, robotics, or defense sectors, ideally within fast-paced hardware development environments
- Proven self-starter who can independently drive from problem statement to 80 percent solution in weeks within a small-team or startup setting
- BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
