Electrical Instrumentation Engineer

Job Summary

This Electrical Instrumentation Engineer will support the reliability, safety, and continuous improvement of a manufacturing plant's electrical power distribution, instrumentation, process controls, and automation systems. The role partners closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams to enhance equipment reliability, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and successfully execute capital improvement projects from concept through completion.

Essential Functions

  • Design, install, maintain, and improve electrical and instrumentation systems throughout the manufacturing facility
  • Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFD, and process control issues to support plant operations
  • Lead capital projects from inception through design, construction, procurement, cost control, and schedule management
  • Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, and lighting systems
  • Specify instrumentation such as control valves and transmitters
  • Perform electrical calculations including load studies, voltage drop, motor starting analysis, and conduit or cable tray sizing
  • Review design documents and prepare bid and construction packages
  • Develop project cost estimates, secure funding, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper project design and execution

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Two years of engineering experience in electrical engineering
  • Experience developing electrical one-line diagrams
  • Experience using electrical area classification drawings to develop detailed design drawings
  • Experience developing Instrument Loop Diagrams
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code
  • Knowledge of AC/DC electrical motor controls
  • Ability to lead projects with strong planning and execution skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to Electric Heat Trace installation design
  • Exposure to Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) and Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
