Engineering Manager, Integration & Test

advanced nuclear energy company El Segundo, CA Direct Hire $209,000 - $284,000

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to build and lead the Integration and Test function for a commercial microreactor program. This hands-on role combines technical leadership with people management to develop a hardware-in-the-loop test environment that will validate the complete reactor control system ahead of its 2028 commercial deployment.

You will establish the test infrastructure from the ground up, manage a team of electrical engineers, and serve as the primary technical owner for system architecture, integration, and validation processes. This is a foundational position that brings together electrical, software, controls, and simulation disciplines around a unified test platform.

Essential Functions

  • Build and lead the Integration and Test team, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and resource planning
  • Architect hardware-in-the-loop test systems from initial requirements through platform selection, configuration, and hardware bring-up
  • Recreate reactor control systems on the bench by simulating sensors, actuators, signals, and system inputs and outputs
  • Own electrical and software integration requirements across power distribution, signal conditioning, sensor mapping, actuator interfaces, communications, and device simulation
  • Collaborate with software, controls, simulation, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure test environments accurately represent reactor behavior
  • Develop and drive electrical validation strategies, including test procedures, automation tooling, data acquisition, and debugging methodologies
  • Manage schedules, budgets, vendors, and technical risks for integration and test infrastructure
  • Lead design reviews and communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and program status to engineering leadership and executives

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on integration and test systems
  • At least 2 years of direct people-management experience
  • Proven track record building hardware-in-the-loop test systems from clean-sheet design through deployment
  • Strong background in system architecture, requirements definition, and cross-functional technical leadership
  • Experience managing schedules, budgets, and technical risks in fast-paced engineering environments
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and develop engineers in ambiguous, high-growth settings
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to leadership and executives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in safety-critical or regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, or automotive
  • Background with real-time simulation platforms and control system validation
  • Prior success scaling test infrastructure in a startup or rapidly growing organization
  • Familiarity with reactor or power system controls and instrumentation

Technical Skills

  • NI PXI platforms
  • dSPACE systems
  • Speedgoat real-time targets
  • LabVIEW
  • TestStand
  • Python
  • C++ and C#
  • FPGA development
  • National Instruments hardware and software ecosystems
  • Data acquisition and signal conditioning
  • Hardware-in-the-loop simulation

Education & Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required. Advanced degree preferred.
