Lead Applied AI Engineer
Job Summary
Lead AI engineering efforts to integrate advanced AI capabilities into a design tool product. Focus on fine-tuning models for optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and accuracy while establishing LLM architecture and managing AI infrastructure for low latency.
Essential Functions
- Fine-tune AI models for specific use cases to optimize performance and accuracy
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate AI models into the product
- Evaluate and benchmark models against latency and accuracy standards
- Set up and manage infrastructure supporting efficient AI model deployment
- Conduct model evaluation, benchmarking, and observability work
- Track latest AI advancements to refine development approaches
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in backend engineering or applied AI engineering
- Hands-on experience building AI agents
- Experience building Small Language Models (SLMs)
- Proven track record owning AI architecture and technical direction
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Experience managing AI model fine-tuning and infrastructure setup
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fine-tuning techniques such as LoRA or distillation
- Background in applied AI roles at growth-stage companies or startups
- Ability to own systems end-to-end and lead execution

Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range of $275,000 to $350,000
